gearing up

Going to see The Capitol Steps this afternoon in what kicks off the next few days of anticipation and celebration. It's weird how this week feels so much like a holiday week. We are going to a show, we are taking Wednesday off, Joe Biden is in town, I even got a new shirt to wear this week to encourage voting. It's gonna be a fun week!

Awww. there you go again Joe, readin' my blog...

Somebody's been peeping at my blog and taking my advice to shut up! I just didn't think he'd leave Grampy McSame hanging like this...
Thanks to Dave for this incredible video link. Pretty much says it all, ladies.

The Two-Legged Zoo

Lately the term "socialist" has been being flung harder than the poo in the monkey cage at the local zoo. Let's take a minute and refresh our vocabulary:

so·cial·ism (sō'shə-lĭz'əm)
1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
2. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved.

So, the first definition sounds pretty much like our tax system. Collecting taxes. Redistributing or sharing, if you will. In the current climate no one would dare agree to that being true, but somehow on the day of his Inauguration, Barack will have us in a Socialist state. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating, but certainly in the first month, no doubt.
When Barack used the term "sharing the wealth" to that GOP tool "Joe the Plumber", he opened a can of worms that seems to have played into the sweaty hands of McCain at first glance. However, as is with the majority of his campaign thus far, he is speaking before checking the clear facts around him. Lucky for us, my lovely found this article today. Check out this clip from an article in The New Yorker:

For her part, Sarah Palin, who has lately taken to calling Obama “Barack the Wealth Spreader,” seems to be something of a suspect character herself. She is, at the very least, a fellow-traveller of what might be called socialism with an Alaskan face. The state that she governs has no income or sales tax. Instead, it imposes huge levies on the oil companies that lease its oil fields. The proceeds finance the government’s activities and enable it to issue a four-figure annual check to every man, woman, and child in the state. One of the reasons Palin has been a popular governor is that she added an extra twelve hundred dollars to this year’s check, bringing the per-person total to $3,269. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (“collectively,” no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.

Sounds pretty "share the wealth"ey doesn't it? Taxing someone with money and spreading it around to those without. How about McCain's 2000 Hardball appearance about higher taxes for the wealthy in an exchange with a voter:

McCain replied that “wealthy people can afford more” and that “the very wealthy, because they can afford tax lawyers and all kinds of loopholes, really don’t pay nearly as much as you think they do.” The exchange continued:

YOUNG WOMAN: Are we getting closer and closer to, like, socialism and stuff?. . .
MCCAIN: Here’s what I really believe: That when you reach a certain level of comfort, there’s nothing wrong with paying somewhat more.

First of all, don't you think wife Cindy smacked his bald little head for that last comment? heehee just visualize that...
Secondly, it's yet another case of this campaign taking an idea, making it seems demonic to suit their purposes, and not bothering to check themselves first. The hypocrisy is astounding.
The next time someone brings up the whole scary wealth spreading socialist point to you, arm yourself with these two facts and fire away. Both are documented quotes from the candidates.

There are only a few days left to endure this crap. Arm yourself with facts. The other side only has poo.

Thank goodness! I wasn't sure which way to vote and now I'm totally convinced!

Is anyone even listening to this guy anymore? WTF? We had to have a press event to declare that Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Joe the Plumber has chosen his candidate after a grueling deliberation and careful consideration of the pros and cons of each. Kiss my ass!
First off the only dumbshits still listening to/following this tool are McCain, Palin, and one or two wing-nuts I see on the street bold enough to wear a "Read My Lipstick" t-shirt.
The fact that the Associated Press actually had to expend the energy to type up this story should be a crime. The media needs to turn it's back on the shenanigans that are being passed off as real issues and real values of the American working class.
That being said, Seacrest out.

dum-de-dum-dum

I was planning on live blogging tonight's final debate for the office of President, but after the news that Nancy Reagan has broken her pelvis, I thought better. Instead, I am launching an investigation onto the recent health related problems surrounding major political figures and how John McCain figures in each of those events:

#1 Did Ted Kennedy really have a seizure the day of the first debate which resulted in hospitalization due to his current brain tumor condition, or did John McCain slip into his home and turn on strobe lights to induce said seizure?

#2 Did Dick Cheney have legitimate heart problems today, the day of the final debate, or did McCain secretly plug up a microwave up outside of the VP residence and jack it up to high? Hmmm?
#3 Finally, I have a sneaking suspicion that if you were to consult the secret service tapes at the Reagan home, you might find images of John McCain tackling poor little Nancy and cracking her pelvis, thereby giving him the ability to elicit sympathy for yesteryear at the opening of tonight's debate. I'm just sayin'...
People, these events seem a bit shady. A bit like opportunity for John McCain to take the focus off himself and his failing campaign. I have gathered a crack team of investigators to look into my assertions. I look forward to hearing their findings.

Frankly, things are happening so fast in this campaign that I can hardly keep up. It seems like every time I turn on the TV something new has happened, some great breakthrough is occurring, or someone has put their whole limb in their mouth and I just HAVE to comment!
So here is a large post detailing a few things that have happened in the last few days:

Does Cindy McCain have amnesia? She thinks Barack Obama telling the truth about a real event is worse than the hack job George Bush did on her husband, nay her family in 2000?
I think we've got a short circuit in the FemBot!

McCain's campaign ads are now 100% negative and attack Obama, filled with lies and distortions, and are now responsible for inciting mob riot mentality at his rallies. What happened to this guy?

Sarah Palin has now been found guilty of "acting unlawfully" in the Troopergate scandal. Surprise. A rundown of all counts can be found here. *This just in* since I started writing this post, Sarah Palin herself has commented on the findings of the Troopergate investigation: "pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing ... any hint of any kind of unethical activity there." She denounced the investigation, calling it "a partisan circus." My dear the only circus here is the one in between your ears.
So now that she has been found to be a big pants on fire liar, will her credibility as she spews hate rhetoric at rallies be in question? Most likely not. Wing-nuts cleave to wing-nuts and always have an excuse for a "biased" inquiry.

We all saw in the debates last week that McCain wasn't able to find a set of balls prior to 9pm so he could effectively attack and tie Barack to the Bill Ayers bullshit his campaign had been sprinkling about. No, instead he played it safe and relied on Sarah Palin and his robotic wife Cindy to keep spreading the lies, insinuations and references. Nice and chivalrous, John. Let the ladies go out and continue the smears. So now it's a new week and time for this week's incarnation of John McCain. Last week he was a maverick, this week he is an underdog. OK. Apparently, he has us "right where we want them" which I can only read as "I don't really want to be President bad enough to be saddled with this dingbat Palin for 4 years, my war injuries are hurting from all the campaigning and spastic waving, the nation is in the crapper, and I can't seem to shake this guy."

If you, or anyone else you know, needs any motivation AT ALL to get your butts to the polls and vote for Barack Obama just take a glance at any of the McCain rally footage being shown by any of the news networks at any time during the day.
Just watching these two spew lie after lie is enough to make me sick! Playing to the emotions of the crowd when it comes to finances and veteran's benefits alone is about to make me go crazy! Lie upon lie about "fixing the system", "balancing the budget", always "talking about the past" just roll out of their mouths like fucking diarrhea! Who does this crowd of lemmings think hasn't balanced the budget? Who has taken us to the record setting deficits we currently enjoy in the country? Who has voted against veteran's benefits time after time? WHO is always talking about the past?!!! Reagan, Hoover, Roosevelt, Reagan, Reagan, Reagan....

Lord, I hope I make it to November!

rules, schmules

So I decided not to live blog this week's debate because frankly I was exhausted from having a few nights of bad sleep. I admit it, I just couldn't hang so I chose to follow online and watch it live. What did you think about the debate?
Of course, I think Barack did an excellent job. He continues to look the most in control and presidential of the two. Cool. Calm. Level-headed. My biggest complaints regarding the debate came first for McCain and you can read about those anywhere online. He really has backed himself into a corner and can only go negative from now on, and now three days after the second debate that is exactly what he is doing.
So my beef comes for Tom Brokaw as the moderator. This link tidily wraps up some of the annoyances. The rules for this debate were agreed on by the candidates and designed to engage the audience and attendees. As it turned out, the moderator asked almost as many questions as the citizens(8 audience, 4 from Internet, 9 Brokaw), repeatedly chastised the candidates about time only when Obama went over and not McCain, did not remind them of the rule about not touching audience members even after McCain basically made out with a Navy audience member, and was it just me or did it seem like Barack got cut off and made to go second a number of times throughout the debate?
In the end, very little happened to change the current tipping of the polls in Barack's direction. McCain continues to bury himself in negative speak and it seems can't help showing what an angry little man he is. The biggest change for me came in the form of my opinion of Tom Brokaw. Now I see him as a biased bully journalist of sorts. Makes me sad he took over Tim Russert's chair, even for an interim.

I'm just sayin'...

The campaign attacks from McCain to Obama have gotten nasty this week. Looks like it will be messy until Nov 4th. I know desperation brings about, well, desperate acts, but it seems to me if your campaign is already in trouble, steering clear of any traps or contradictions would be a great idea. Need examples?

If you are going to dredge up the unsubstantiated rumor that Barack is a consort of Bill Ayers, former Weather Underground member, then you as the attacker should have a squeaky clean past that doesn't include say, The Keating Five/S & L Bailout debacle, right?

John McCain at the Senate Ethics Committee hearing in 1991

Oh yeah, click here to see what Barack was doing during the radical attacks by the Weather Underground.

If you are going to insinuate that Barack is unpatriotic, thinks less of America than average Joe-Six-Pack, and stop just short of saying that he himself is a terrorist, then wouldn't it be prudent to check the past dealings of your running mate and her spouse to be sure they are free of any activity that would appear to be un-American, like let's say membership in The John Birch Society?

We all know that debates are filled with missteps, fibs, stretches of the truths, and outright lies, right? Thursday night's VP debate was no exception. Both sides stretched and lied about the other, but factcheck.org was actually keeping score, and here are the results. I think you'll see a clear liar..uh loser.
I just thought of a fun idea! If you Tivo'd the debate, watch it and keep this site handy to check the facts. That is if you can stand watching it again. Personally, it was angina inducing.

kill me quickly

My impression of how Sarah Palin had to feel as Joe Biden trudged deeply into policy can be seen at 2:40 of this awesome clip from my favorite movie ever. I just kept seeing this scene in my head as he talked and she rifled through her notes. Psst! Pause the music.

2008 Vice Presidential Debate live blog #8

America, I think what we need to ask ourselves is this: If the President is out of commission due to a colonoscopy, who do you want to technically in charge for a few hours? Biden or Palin?

I mean really...

2008 Vice Presidential Debate live blog #7

You guys that are playing beer pong or any other drinking games, I feel for you if you picked "maverick" Lots of water my friends. Lots of water.

Rounding home. Biden is bringing it in with a strong answer on compromising in government.

Palin is closing up. Puts in a jab to the media then proceeds to tell us it is all going to be okay if we'd just elect her and Grampy.

Biden closing now. Feels a lot less like hoodwinkery than Palin. A lot less robotic.

2008 Vice Presidential Debate live blog #6

What is with the intermittent winking and flirting with the camera? Shameless.

How did we get on elementary school shout-outs? we have run off the rails ya'll.

Aww, you guys, I was just joking about not having a freaking clue about what the VP does. Riiiight.

Do the right-wing nuts even see her totally reading off the cards? Good grief! I can read but that doesn't make me a great fit for the VP!

Question: "What is your real achilles heel as a VP candidate?"
Palin answer: she just vomitted every talking point/downhomeism/cute phrase/ bullet point ever said in the last 5 weeks

2008 Vice Presidential Debate live blog #5

Biden just did a 90 second stint on Israel, and all Palin could say is "I'm so happy we both love Israel" Interesting rebuttal.

"Past is prologue" Brilliant.

I think Palin's notes are getting crinkled or something. She can't seem to get them out fast enough.

Ugh. Why can't she just say nuclear correct?

Biden's reiteration of the facts after Palin vomits lies gets him a lot of boost on the CNN ticker. She only gets it when she smiles big and says "gosh darn"

"John McCain was lockstep with Dick Cheney" great soundbite

2008 Vice Presidential Debate live blog #4

"With all due respect, I don't hear a plan." This could be the template response to all of Palin's babble tonight.

Finally Palin brings up the troop support issue. She really needs to check out the facts on this one. You can too: http://www.veteransforcommonsense.org/articleid/9559

McCain's voting against troop support and veteran's benefits is proven and staggering when you listen to the campaign continually attack Barack's voting record.

I think Palin has a crush on General Petraus. She gets a little glint in her eye when she mentions him.
Is it just me or is she talking waaaay too much?

No she did not just tout respect for Women's Rights! Bitch, please!

2008 Vice Presidential Debate live blog #3

So far Palin has changed the topic just about every time she has been given a rebuttal. FYI: my debate pet peeve.

Biden is now actually answering the energy question on the table instead of giving canned Palinesque answers like "energy independence is the key to America's future"

OMG! This robotic buffoon is proud of "Drill Baby Drill"

It's noo-clee-ar you dumbass!

Biden is speaking perfectly on same-sex benefits. Still no support for marriage. No suprise there.
