Broadway Monday

Hairspray
It's 1962 and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one dream--to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning teen queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do! Based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic film.
We were so lucky to see this show in March of 2003 for our 10th Anniversary! It was just a couple of months before the Tony's and the original cast were all still firmly in place! Little did we know that in June of that year, this fabulous show would walk away with 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical! I was tickled beyond belief to see the fabulous Harvey Fierstein enter the stage as Edna, Tracy's large and lovable mother.
The video is a bit grainy, but worth it! Try to make it to 1:55 for Harvey's big entrance! Ugh...I love him!

Hairspray is currently filling the seats of the Neil Simon Theatre weekly and on tour all over the world! No seriously, all over.
