Memorial Day

Today, we honor those men and women who have lost their lives for our country in times of war.

As you inevitably see token footage of the president laying a commemorative wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown and the requisite smoothing of the ribbon so as to look genuinely concerned and affected, take time to remember that a majority of the men who put our servicepeople in harms way ducked out of service themselves. The list is embarrassingly long of those who made themselves either unavailable or invisible.

Don't be fooled by his fake concern. He does not give a shit about anyone but himself.

Also, as you hear the talking heads on radio and TV spew words of concern and support for those who have put our men and women in the line of fire, remember this:
Rush Limbaugh - did not serve
Sean Hannity - did not serve
Pat Buchanan - did not serve
Ann Coulter - did not serve
Ralph Reed - did not serve
Bill O'Reilly - did not serve
Michael Savage - did not serve
Bill Kristol - did not serve

Whew!

Just another reminder that we sooo picked* the right guy.

*I DID NOT vote for this asshole!

"If we allow homosexuals to marry to honor their 'civil rights' and not discriminate against them, how could we protest the attempt of a polygamist to marry more than one wife, or a father to marry his daughter, or a group of people to marry?"

----from Focus on the Family memo distributed to members of Congress and anti-gay marriage activists

FIGHT DISCRIMINATION!

This June, early June, the right wing will attempt to write discrimination into the Constitution— again!
Senators Frist and Santorum have promised a vote that threatens to make gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender people second-class citizens forever.
Take action with the Human Rights Campaign!

wowee!

Wow!

It has been a long time since an artist came out with something that I #1 immediately loved, #2 enjoyed more than 80% of the entire CD, #3 and couldn't wait to tell EVERYONE to buy it!!
Huge criteria, I know. But hey, I expect a lot from artists and their music!

The Dixie Chicks latest CD, "Taking the Long Way" is absolutely stupendous! From the title song, and first track, they completely won me over. I think when you are as talented as these women are, it is difficult to sound bad, (but we know everyone has the capacity to put out a stinker or two.) That being said, this may be the best release from the Chicks to date. I think they have made their point, beautifully, and at the same time continued to speak their mind, keep their integrity intact and, I believe, make new fans and revive some of the old!
The rest of the flapping mouths can suck on dis! If you don't want to suck on dis, then just take a listen to "Bitter End", it's for you!

"What happened to the ones we knew,

as long as I'm the shiniest star, Oh there you are

Farewell to old friends, lets raise a glass the the bitter end

Farewell to old friends, we'll still be here

when you come 'round again"

I give up!

I guess it just doesn't matter anymore. It is becoming increasingly apparent that under the current administration, anything goes. It doesn't matter how much you lie, cheat, or steal. No matter where you turn, someone is getting rewarded for being a scumbag.
This week's scumbag.

dust off those shirts

On May 18th a Senate Committee voted 10-8 to resuscitate the Federal Marriage Amendment and attempt to write discrimination into the Constitution.
First, let me remind you that the committee is comprised of 10 Republicans and 8 Democrats, lest ye lose faith in those fighting for equality. This is clearly a Repubilcan attempt to divert attention from the important matters at hand and shine the spotlight back on the real enemy of our nation, happy lesbian and gay couples.
Secondly, let me hit you over the head with the fact that this amendment is being voted on AGAIN in June to become part of the Constitution. So, dust off those HRC "I do..." t-shirts and start lobbying your senator. We only have a few weeks to bring attention to the matter and let our voices be heard. Spread the word to your friends.
Please utilize the links above to arm yourself with information, but if you need more info, just leave me a comment. I will help guide.
Thank you for your help and support.

c'mon...you can do it!

Now don't be afraid to go to this link and read this story just because it is on the Aljazeera website, and your afraid you might get picked up for frequenting the news agency of a "terrorist organization". I'm sure you will be fine. Our president, vice president, and their administration would never spy on your personal whereabouts and hold a grudge. Nah...

Hugo Chavez continues to crack me up with his upstaging of our idiotic government. You know, we would look like complete heroes and legitimately concerned about our fellow man if we would just offer to provide clean drinking water to some African countries. However, we did have trouble trucking ice in to New Orleans last year, so maybe that isn't a good idea.

Every election cycle right about this time, I start to crack up and the inconsistencies of possible candidates. Alliances are made, fences are mended, asses are kissed...

Now, I am not just pointing fingers at the Republicans. Lord knows Hillary has already stuck her foot in it a few times. But take note of John McCain. I swear this man couldn't get any wishy-washier. He just runs around behind the next hottest thing like it is going to crap out the Golden Election Egg. His latest alliance is with none other than the right Rev. Jerry Falwell. Nothing like drooling after the Jesus vote. Be sure to read the link above. Count the smacks.

Wonder how long until the GOP starts calling him a "flip-flopper"? Yeah right...

"Hey You Guys!!"

Raise your hand if you rushed home everyday after school to watch "The Electric Company"

I am sooo excited that I found the 4-disc DVD of the best of The Electric Company at Best Buy!
We had 5 channels to watch when I was growing up. Three VHF and two UHF. (If you are right now wondering what in the world I am talking about, close this window and come back after you have asked a grown up about or researched the ins and outs of television signal frequency.) Channel 24 was our public television station and ran what seemed to be a continuous loop of Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Sesame Street, and The Electric Company. I'm sure they ran more, but I was obsessed with these three. As I got older, the three shows would become two and the two would become one and, eventually I no longer watched. Sadly, you outgrow each of the shows as maturity sets in.
Now that senility is beginning to set in, I can watch my DVDs and reminisce about fuzzy reception, after school snacks, lying on the carpeted floor on my belly in front of the tv, and rabbit ears.
Good times.

lame duck, or lame dick...just lame

Let the late night backstabbery begin!
Efforts to get his way and leave what he perceives as a "legacy" were foiled as our Mini Me version of the Doofball in Charge, Jeb, was voted down and turned on by members of his own party!

I graduated from UF with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I put in many frustrating hours at prairie View Elementary in a kindergarten classroom of 24 children. So frustrating that when my internship was over, I immediately decided that college was a great experience and I learned an immeasurable amount, but there was no way I would teach. I very quietly put the chalk back in the box and handed in my planning book. 24 children in a classroom, even for a veteran educator, is insane! At the time only 5 of my students had behavior problems (now diagnosed as ADHD, the Dx de jour) which is small compared to nowadays.
Enter the class size initiative that would help teachers better maintain order and instruct our youth. The initiative would cap the number of kindergarteners to 18. 18 is a way more respectable number. 18, for a teacher, is a dream. Especially when you have been in the trenches with 24 or more.
*REALITY CHECK*
Ever offered to watch your 5 or 6 yr old niece or nephew for an afternoon? Was it nonstop activity riddled mayhem? Were you exhausted when you happily returned them to their parent? Okay, now think of that multiplied by 24, without TV or video games, oh and most of them did not get enough sleep last night, 7 did not get bathed yet this week, 4 were sent to school with shoes on the wrong feet, 1 has no shoes, 10 got no breakfast or were too late to get the free breakfast before school therefore the brain is basically eating itself,...oh and it's only Wednesday. Should I go on?
I know what you are saying. I can hear it now. "Well, that teacher chose her profession. She knew what she was getting into. Not getting any sympathy from me."
Yep...we all had grand ideas of one day getting our very own classroom of ill-mannered, dirty, abused, emotionally detached, 5 yr olds whose hope for a little stability and true affection lies in the six hours he/she gets to come to school everyday.
For most, the only structure and stability in their lives is found in their teacher. Why shouldn't we AT LEAST help the teachers out by giving them a smaller class to instruct? It ultimately benefits all involved, most importantly the children.

So, thanks for letting me rant. Thanks to the Florida Democrats and six Republicans who voted against Jeb and actually (gasp) did the bidding of the people. Remember? We voted in the class-size initiative in 2002! It has taken this long to actually see some movement toward our request because Jeb has been trying to block it with bribes and threats.
Thanks to the teachers who stand strong even though society disprects them and their governer thinks their unification is dangerous. Thanks for being strong enough to continue to do the job that I could not.

sound familiar?

Nazi leader Herman Goering once remarked that it was easy to lead people into war, regardless of whether they resided within “a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.” All that was required, Goering argued, is for their government to “tell them they are being attacked, and [then] denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to greater danger.”

Just one of the MANY links I found when I Googled "Bush vs. Hitler"

Thursday, May 11, 2006

If you just couldn't place that peculiar smell in the air the last few days, let me help. Bush has been in state...again...ugh

Here to trump up support and scare the elderly into signing up for the Medicare plan, he made a few pits stops and managed to get cornered by the nutcase also known as Katherine Harris. Man, could the support for this chick get any chillier? You know it is bad when NEITHER Bush supports you even though you have been credited with cheating W into the White House.

Harris' only real competition for the primary, Allan Bense, just bowed out this morning. So, that means we have to get to work! Harris really has no chance in beating Bill Nelson, but she does know how to cheat rather well, so you never know. Although I disagree with Nelson on a number of things, primarily the way he votes to appease both sides of the ailse, I most definitely agree that he is the better choice. Duh!

How much more proof do we need? This incredibly incompetent idiot shares his best moment of his illustrious presidency. Geez...

right where we left off...

I went down to Orlando yesterday to spend some time with my old friend Kay! It was so good to see her and catch up on current life events!
Kay currently lives in Philly, but was in state for her first ever triathlon! I am so proud of her and the resilience she has shown to finish this huge task! I admire her very much. It takes a strong person to commit to something like that...and strong she is.

We have been through so much in the last 19 years as friends. Various cities and girlfriends have come and gone. Many pounds have come and gone as well! Still, no matter the city, girlfriend or weight division, we have always stayed in touch and always seem to come back together to check in on our often busy lives. Kay has been my touchstone for a time in my life that was innocent, scary, carefree, and bursting with potential. I'm so glad to still have her in my life today! Posted by Picasa

HYPOCRITE!!

For all the posturing and flag waving nationalism Bush partakes in, maybe he should take the time to make sure he isn't sticking his foot in it every time he speaks!

Why is this funny?

Since when did it become a treat to laugh along with the media at our own dicktator as he laughs at the plethora of foibles, mistakes, and general stupidity of himself and his staff?

At first glance it is kind of funny to see someone impersonate Bush so well; shining a bright light on what we already know: he is an idiot. Then you realize that Bush himself is going along with it. Then it becomes gross.

If you have watched the video, you can see that this is dinner entertainment is meant to make the disgusting happenings of the last 12 months lighthearted and just so darn funny it makes your sides hurt. What bullshit.

It is not funny to mock the fact that the majority of America thinks you are a bumbling idiot. It is not funny to make light of the fact that your Vice President drunkenly shot another elderly man in the face while hunting. The whole thing is not funny.
Read for yourself.
Now read what Media Matters has to say. They have the disturbing video as well.
