Broadway Monday

Xanadu Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO…hey, it's 1980! But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.
Yes, that odd movie from the 80's has made it to Broadway, and quite successfully I might add! Where the movie tried to be legitimate and serious, the Broadway show has decided to be hilarious and make fun of itself before anyone else has a chance, and it works! The audiences are roaring with laughter and the seats are full!

Honestly, I thought I was the only one in the world who actually saw the movie and loved it. Now, this many years later I realize I not so much loved the movie, as much as I loved the music! Hence, you are listening to the beautiful vocal stylings of Olivia Newton-John singing the original song instead of Kerry Butler. The original soundtrack really is amazing!

Casting for the show has garnered much attention due to the placement of relatively new leading lady Kerry Butler to the always hilarious Jackie Hoffman to the hottest legs on roller skates, Cheyenne Jackson. Even Whoopie Goldberg recently took a spin as a muse in the last few months.

Xanadu is currently playing at the Helen Hayes Theatre and is due to close October 12th.
