Broadway Monday

Chicago
Chicago is a musical tale of "murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery—all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts." Paint the town red with merry murderesses Roxie Hart, Velma Kelly, their hotshot lawyer, Billy Flynn, and the iconic choreography of Bob Fosse.
Chicago is a Kander and Ebb musical set in prohibition era Chicago. The book is by Ebb and Bob Fosse. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice, and the concept of the "celebrity criminal." The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes on which she reported.
The current production of this fabulous show is the revival that began in 1996 starring Bebe Neuwirth, making it the longest running revival in Broadway history. The New York production alone has seen over 4700 performances!
In what has become a staple for this revival, the lead roles are regularly known to feature well-known names in show business such as Brooke Shields, Joel Grey, Lisa Rinna, Molly Ringwald, Tom Wopat, Usher, Jerry Orbach, Rita Wilson, John O'Hurley, Harry Hamlin, Wayne Brady, Alison Moyet, Kelly Osbourne, and Lynda Carter. Everytime I'm in NY it never fails that I look up at the Chacago marquee and go, "Huh. I didn't know he/she could sing and dance." Makes for a fun game. What? I know I'm a geek!
The revival won the Tony for Best Revival in 1997 and the show has gone on to win an Academy Award for the 2002 film adaptation starring Richard Gere, Catharine Zeta-Jones, Rene Zellweger, and Queen Latifah.

Four days!

I woke up this morning with a great feeling!

Today begins a frenzy of good activity centered around the house sale, but it also starts the three very busy days at the office that lead up to our trip to Chicago!

I have been following castcom for The Pirate Queen for the last two weeks and this weekend was the last posting, leaving people like me hanging in the balance until the show opens tomorrow! I suppose they deserve a couple of days to pull it all together without checking in on the needy fans! Theatre aside, I am looking forward to going back to Chicago and seeing a bit more of that great city. We intend to branch out a bit more from the last trip, and definitely try some new vegetarian restaurants we have heard about since last May.

Stay tuned for lots of twists and turns in my mood. I hope this new St. John's Wort is up for the challenge!
