Heroes of the Week

Much to my excitement, I heard the words of two people this week who dared to step outside of the zone of comfort and say what most of us wish we could, or just simply don't have the courage to do so.

California Lt. Governor John Garamendi went on what seemed like every news channel available and made no bones about his feelings regarding the California National Guard, the wildfires, and the Iraq War. As Bush prepared to arrive for his latest photo-op at a national disaster, Garamendi repeated these facts on just about every news show:

"the state's National Guard is under-funded, mismanaged, and stretched to the breaking point. Approximately 2,500 of its members were deployed overseas at the time of the fire. Its equipment is generally 30 to 40 years old. And, according to a recent USA Today article, at least 800 Humvees, 700 medium tactical vehicles and 50 heavy lifter trucks were unavailable, primarily because they were being used in Iraq. "

Don't be afraid to speak up. You don't have to be in Washington, or on MSNBC to let your voice be heard. Wear a t-shirt, place a sticker, speak up when you hear someone say something ridiculous and uninformed. Your voice may give someone else the courage to find their own.

As I posted earlier this week, I have been posting in my brain if not in real life and today I am finding the time to actually sit down and say a few things. My blogger brain has been sizzling all week long with a few topics that just can't be ignored any longer.

I'll start with the story that just started hitting the airwaves and blogosphere in this morning. Big ups to GMA for actually covering the story, but I'd like to see a little outrage and disgust since this isn't the first time this has happened! Make sure you check out all the evidence. The GMA clip speaks volumes.

Apparently, the only fire Cheney is interested in are the ones that result from bombs over Baghdad. The audacity of this administration to continue to insult those affected by natural disasters is astonishing. Absolutely pathetic.
