You'll all be relieved/excited to know that the nut-job church featured in this story has no plans for taking the sign down, in fact, more will be erected featuring more button-pushing topics such as abortion and same-sex marriage. Something tells me I will be linking back to this story a lot.

This week's Time Magazine cover says:
"Unfaithfully Yours
Infidelity is eroding our most sacred institution. How to make marriage matter again."
Hmmm...all this time I thought it was the gays that were eroding marriage. Isn't that interesting. So it's infidelity, huh?
I guess this means that I can go ahead and make my 16-year-monogamous-lesbian relationship legal now and get all those great benefits, right?

Forgive me for being a couple of days late on this, but it is still in the news and timely nonetheless.
So now I guess we gays are responsible for Carrie Prejean not winning the Miss America title last night. Wow, we are awesomely powerful! First 9/11, then Katrina, now this! I can totally see why America is so scared of us and try at every turn to keep us down. I'd be scared of us too. We are freakin' awesome! BTW, Miss Prejean, if you are so happy with your answer to the question, and feel like "the winner" because you stood on principle, why did you run to Fox News so fast? Happiness with your answer doesn't beg the need to plead your case on the "news" network that butters their bread bashing and demonizing homosexuals. You don't think your losing had anything to do with the fact that your answer may have been real, but other parts of you clearly are not, do you?
Check out this ridiculous new campaign that is,... well...ridiculous. These poor heteros are just being attacked from all sides by loving same-sex couples with great fashion sense and awesome organizational skills. Poor things.
BTW, if you have a Twitter account, try working in @nomtweets Suck It! every chance you get! It'll make you feel all tingly inside!
I've had this in the hopper since Sunday night, but my commitment to Broadway Monday bumped Portia to Tuesday and now this is probably old news. But for those of you who haven't seen it yet, enjoy!_______________________________________________________________ Sometimes you just have to laugh at a ridiculous situation. May as well do it with a hot girl!
During the New Year holiday it's always easy to look back on the previous 12 months and point out some of the crappy things that have occurred. Lord knows that the last eight years have been bountiful in the crap department. So this year I wanted to share a few of the great things that I think helped fill the year with positivity for us as individuals, a people, and a community. I'd love to hear some of yours!
Happy New Year!
Barack Obama
We as a nation rose to the occasion, and elected our first African American president. Although the fact that we made history with that vote is not lost on me, I'm more proud of the fact that we elected the right person. We actually weighed the possibilities and used our intellect to cast our vote. Good morning, America.
Rachel Maddow You must be living under a rock or Fox News if you haven't heard about this awesome new addition to the political news landscape. Actually, I'm sure Fox News junkies know about her too. How can you miss such a fresh, smart, poised, confident face chomping at your heels?
Pushing Daisies So we got two seasons of smart witty television out of this show. I should be happy and thankful, but I'm kind of bitter and cranky about it. I wish we as viewers could handle fast-paced, smart, multiple storylined dialogue. But, apparently if it's not dripping in obvious humor, sappy uninventive love triangles, stethoscopes and lanes of Wisteria we just can't keep up. So, Pushing Daisies is to be relegated to the back room marked cancelled. I think there is an open seat next to Arrested Development. Duffy and Adele In a year filled with more head shakingly awful hip-hop, emo boy bands wearing girls jeans, and yes another Britney comeback (blechh) we were so fortunate that the UK shared Duffy and Adele with us! These girls made it enjoyable to listen to an entire CD and appreciate an artist who can actually sing. Duffy's breakout single "Mercy" made the rounds on the radio and could be heard as bumper music for some TV shows which helped her sell an excellent album. Adele had the great fortune to be seen by millions on Saturday Night Live the night Tina Fey and Sarah Palin did "some fancy pageant walkin' " and her sales soared. Couple those events with an appearance on Ellen and I think Duffy and Adele have reached the audiences that deserve to know them! Are you in the know? Fallout 3
What can I say about the game that has, at current count, taken 110 hours of my life? I think one word is--AWESOME! Post-Apocalypse DC never looked so good, played so well, and engaged me to the point that I recruited my lovely to play and now we are relegated to set a timer so we each get fair, measured exposure. 42 year old body...14 year old mind 3 months of a quiet night's sleep Anyone privy to our struggles here at the house with the students living next door know how wonderful it is for me to say that save for one or two nights, we have slept through the night for an entire semester! It's just amazing what can happen when the City Code Board gets involved...
dooceAlthough not new to me this year, dooce.com and it's creator Heather Armstrong continue to highlight my web experience and never fail to make me chuckle. You should check her out. This, people, is blogging done the cha-chingy way!
flailing economy
I like having extra cash and less worry, but it seems like we could come out better on the other side having learned lessons in true conservatism and frugality.
Hillary Clinton"Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it's got about 18 million cracks in it, and the light is shining through like never before, filling us all with the hope and the sure knowledge that the path will be a little easier next time." It was an historic campaign and those eloquent words will be what I remember about this candidate. Hillary stood on that stage and delivered the most heartfelt speech of her career with words that hit me in the heart and made me proud to be a woman and a supporter.
Tina Fey Tina, Tina, Tina...you just creeped right into our living rooms and made yourself at home didn't you? It's because of you that I even let that ridiculous Sarah Palin grace my television set. I have always loved Tina and her highbrow brand of humor, and after she left SNL to branch out into her awesome show "30 Rock" I felt a little better about the state of the television sitcom. Kooky governors from Alaska will come and go, but Mom Jeans will always be in style!
Defeat of Prop 8 Would it have been nice to know that California would allow gay marriage after November? Sure. Am I disappointed? Of course. But I am reminded that something of this magnitude, something that will surely get the ball rolling for the rest of the country, will be met with resistance. No matter the resistance or failure, it is still a step forward. This too WILL pass.
After telling someone in conversation that we were going to LA soon, she asked me disgustedly, "You're not going out there to get married are you?" My immediate response was, in my opinion, the only thing I could say: "No, but what if we were?"
Ladies and Gentlemen, let me tell you that I have rarely seen such a display of what we here in the south call, crawfishin'. All of the sudden this person was all "Oh well I was going to say "You better tell me if you do!" in a fashion that would suggest that she had already bought a wedding gift.
Herein lies the problem with so called open-minded conservatives that want to keep one toe in the progressive/liberal pool (the vast majority of people living here): you can't pretend to embrace liberals and be open to change all the while listening to Brush Lintball and driving around town with a Rudy08 sticker on your minivan. It will catch up with you eventually, and when it does you will feel just a stupid as you sound.
Last week Ellen announced that she and Portia are getting hitched this summer. Here is the clip if you missed that post. We'll talk about you missing class later...
It's cute everytime you see it, right? Love love love it! So, now let's turn our attention to the dictionary for just a minute (calm down Bren!) Class, (tap tap) today's word is 'uncomfortable' un·com·fort·a·ble 1.causing discomfort or distress; painful; irritating. 2.in a state of discomfort; uneasy; conscious of stress or strain. I don't know about you, but I learn better when there is a picture or video in conjunction with words, so let's take a look at the very definition of uncomfortable in video form:
If you needed any further proof that John McCain is not presidential material, I hope this fixes you right up. On one hand I have to congratulate him for booking on a show that is clearly not his base of voters, but on the other couldn't he have handled it a bit less stiffly and without looking like he was going to blow his top at any second? I mean he had to know this was bound to come up as a topic. He truly looked pissed a few times and I, for one, have had enough of the Mad Cowboy antics in my lifetime already.
Great job Ellen! Way to stay on topic, way to defend our rights and way to handle yourself in a respectable manner, as usual! Love that girl!
What a thrill it is to see these two declare their engagement and impending nuptials!
I've been a fan of them both for a long time, so when they hooked up it was such an exciting thing. We, the gays, have such a lack of good role models as far as celebrities are concerned, and so when a couple stays together for longer than three years it's a good thing. So now we've got Ellen & Portia, Rosie & Kelly, Melissa & Tammy, me & my lovely... :)
This morning driving to work I listened to The Bill Press Show on XM, and was absolutely giddy to hear the sound clip of Al Gore taking a stand, no parsing--no waffling, on gay marriage and equal rights for gays and lesbians.
“Gay men and women ought to have the same rights as heterosexual men and women — to make contracts, to have hospital visiting rights, to join together in marriage, and I don’t understand why it is considered by some people to be a threat to heterosexual marriage…”
I was also extremely happy to hear the question that evolved out of this story as well: Do Gore's comments push the Democratic party to finally pick a stance? No parsing. No waffling. Let's hope so.
Now, let it be said that I do like Katie Holmes a lot--albeit a little less since she has gone off the deep end with Tom and his gazillions. I also used to like Tom a lot more. That being said, I am having a hard time getting all worked up over the fact that a date has been set for their pending nuptuals. Every time I see the media falling all over themselves to herald another celebrity wedding I am painfully reminded of how many times each celebrity has been married already, and the fact that I am not afforded the same opportunities. I have said many times that my relationship of 13 years is no more valid with that piece of paper, but the benefits that go along with the acknowledgement are worth the process. So as we prepare anxiously for Tom Cruise's THIRD marriage, keep in mind that some of us honor the vows we privately made one time in our lives 13 years ago at Paines Prarie.
